What a year it has been for Phillips! The auction house, who ventured back into the world of replica watches with Aurel Bacs from Bacs & Russo, broke records left and right in 2015. Over the course of twelve months, Phillips presented three separate auctions. The result: The highest amount paid for a wristwatch at auction, the highest amount ever paid for a watch at auction in Asia, and many more accolades. Here we take a quick look at the five most expensive replica watches of the year:
Replica Patek Philippe Reference 130 in steel (CHF 4,600,000)
Patek Philippe. Single-Button Chronograph. Two words that ring like music to the ears of watch collectors. While Patek Philippe has usually fitted its single-button chronographs in gold cases, two single-button chronographs were finished in stainless steel. One can be found in the Patek Philippe Museum, in Geneva. The other, you are looking at right now. The Patek Philippe Ref. 130 has one of the highest estimates of the Phillips Geneva Watch Auction: One.
Patek Philippe Replica Reference 1436 in steel (CHF 3,301,000)
One of the finest references ever made by Patek Philippe, Reference 1436 is one of only two vintage split second chronograph references made by the distinguished firm, and is normally cased in yellow gold with only a very small number completed in pink gold. According to scholarship, a small quantity of stainless steel cases was made during the first half of the 1940s, but less than a handful were actually ever used and fitted with movements. The present Patek Philippe replica watches is now offered only for the second time ever since its original sale in 1949, having only seen three ownerships since its original purchase over half a century ago.
Patek Philippe Replica Reference 2499 in 18k yellow gold (CHF 1,805,000)
Patek Philippe’s mythical reference 2499 was introduced in 1951, a decade after the firm launched reference 1518, the world’s first perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch made in series. Although the newly introduced reference 2499 was an incredible evolution for the firm’s top-of-the-line model, it also kept various very important technical and aesthetical elements of its predecessor, notably the movement, the square pushers and most of the dial design.
Replica Patek Philippe Reference 3450 in white gold (CHF 1,553,000)
Introduced in 1981, the reference 3450 is the successor of the reference 3448, the only difference being the modified leap year indication at 4 o’clock on the dial. In total, 246 examples of the reference 3450 were made, 244 of which in yellow gold cases. Indeed, this example is one of only two made in white gold, the other having been sold at auction in New York, October 1989.
Replica Patek Philippe Reference 1518 in pink gold (CHF 1,500,000)
Reference 1518 was launched in 1941 and was not only Patek Philippe’s first wrist replica watches ever to feature a chronograph and a perpetual calendar, but in fact the world’s first ever made in series. According to the brand’s records, a total of 281 examples were made during the model’s 14-year production run but very rarely in pink gold cases. The present example has a flawless and well-documented provenance and looks almost untouched. It will be years before we see another example.
